If your child is preparing for grammar school entry in Essex in 2027, it’s important to know the key exam dates. These are the tests your child will take in September 2026 for admission in September 2027.


CSSE 11+ Exam (Consortium of Selective Schools in Essex)


The CSSE 11+ exam is used by many of the selective grammar schools in Essex, including King Edward VI Grammar (KEGS), Colchester County High School for Girls, and others.

  • Exam date: Saturday 19th September 2026

  • Registration opens: 12th May 2026

  • Format: English and Maths papers

  • Results release: Mid‑October 2026

CSSE Exam in Essex for Grammar schools.


FSCE Entrance Exam (Chelmsford County High School for Girls) CCHS


Chelmsford County High School runs its own entrance exam, the FSCE (Future Stories Community Enterprise), for Year 7 entry.

  • Exam date: Thursday 3rd September 2026

  • Registration opens: 1st April 2026

  • Registration closes: 3rd June 2026

  • Open Day (optional): 30th April 2026

  • Results release: Mid‑October 2026


This exam is separate from CSSE, so students applying to both schools will sit two tests in early September. For details, visit CCHS Admissions.
