Independent Schools Admissions Excellence
Celebrating 100% pass rate in 2024, 2025 & 2026!

Independent School Tuition for 7+, 11+, Quest Assessment & ISEB Pre-test Entrance Exams
Personalised private tuition can significantly aid children applying to the diverse range of independent schools in the UK. It offers tailored instruction, focusing on specific entrance exam requirements and interview preparation. The right tutor will help strengthen academic skills, refine interview techniques, and boost confidence. This personalised support enhances students' chances of successful admission. As a private school leader for many years, I have a experience of working with many top independent schools and I was delighted that 100% of my private school tuition candidates received offers to their school of choice in the last year including offers to Charterhouse, Uppingham, Haileybury, The Hammond, Perse School, Brentwood School, New Hall School, Malvern College and the Emanuel School.
In the last year alone I have successfully supported learners with the ISEB Pretest, Quest Assessment and GL examinations along with independent school internal examinations. My students to date have a 100% pass rate in these exams.
Many independent schools produce and administer their own exam materials, whilst an increasing number are using the ISEB Pretest as part of their assessment process. When faced with independent school entry, an increasing number of schools are using the ISEB Pre-Test for entry at Year 7.
The ISEB Pretest is also used to provide some independent senior schools with information about a pupil’s current attainment and potential, prior to them taking Common Entrance for entry in Year 9.

Here are a few things to know about the ISEB Pre-Test
It's the only entrance exam that is adaptive. This means that the questions become more difficult depending on how your child is performing.
Used by many of the UK’s top independent schools, the ISEB is different to any other style of entrance exam, so there are unique strategies for succeeding at it which I will help your child unlock, having taught and led in a private school for many years with a proud 100% pass rate to private schools.

The all-important interview
Interviews are a crucial part of the private school admissions process. They provide an opportunity for schools to get to know prospective students and their families on a personal level, and for families to learn more about the school's and values. Through interviews, schools can ensure that they are admitting students who will thrive in their and social environments.

Quest Assessment for Independent Schools
The Quest Assessment is a high-stakes, adaptive digital evaluation designed to identify innate cognitive potential beyond traditional rote learning. As a former Headteacher, I recognise that success in these assessments requires more than subject knowledge—it demands metacognitive agility and performance under pressure.
Below, I have curated the essential guidance and familiarisation materials for both parents and candidates. Use these tools not just for practice, but to understand the logic and data behind this modern approach to the 11+.

David’s Insight:
"Quest papers are adaptive. If the questions become incredibly difficult, it means your child is performing at a high level. Preparing them for that psychological 'wall' is the difference between a pass and a panic." Read more here

Case-study: Success Across Time Zones for 11+ London Entry
"Sebastian's" Journey
Sebastian is a highly capable student whose family life is split between the UK and various international homes. Preparing for the rigorous 11+ entry to London’s top tier—King’s College Wimbledon, Westminster, and Emanuel—is a challenge for any student, but doing so while navigating global travel requires a specifically structured approach.
Based in Kensington, Sebastian’s family needed a tutor who could provide seamless, high-level continuity regardless of where in the world they were. One of the most rewarding aspects of my consultancy is the ability to provide this "geographic-blind" support, ensuring the momentum of learning never falters.
Bridging the Gap: From Maths Mastery to English Fluency
Sebastian was exceptionally strong in Mathematics, but like many bright boys of 11, he found English—and specifically the "dreaded" physical task of handwriting—to be a barrier. In the competitive landscape of Westminster and King's, the quality of a student's written expression is often the deciding factor.
Our Global Strategy included:
-
Bespoke, High-Interest Resources: I developed custom English materials designed to appeal to a sophisticated 11-year-old boy. By centering comprehension and composition around topics he was genuinely passionate about, we moved English from a "chore" to a challenge he wanted to win.
-
Handwriting & Presentation Coaching: We focused on the mechanics of writing to ensure his physical output matched the high quality of his internal ideas. This wasn't just about neatness; it was about the "performance" of his work on the page.
-
Flexible Global Scheduling: Whether he was in London or abroad, we worked around his schedule and time zones. This consistency allowed us to build a deep, trusting mentor relationship that kept him focused and motivated.
The Transformation
It was wonderful to see Sebastian’s journey. He transitioned from a "Maths specialist" who shied away from the pen, to a confident, all-round scholar. His handwriting became a tool for his success rather than a hindrance, and his English scores rose to meet his mathematical potential.
The Outcome
Sebastian was successful in the competitive London admissions process and was offered a place at Emanuel School.
He is now thriving in his new school environment. Supporting this lovely family over such a pivotal period was a pleasure, and Sebastian’s success highlights that with a flexible, student-centered approach, global lifestyles need never be a barrier to elite academic achievement.
